Country Charm: How to make an inexpensive farm table

Weddings these days can take on any look or style and I am really digging the organic, earthy look of farmhouse style weddings.  Be it on an actual farm, in a tree-lined park or lovely garden, these weddings just need a couple of simple table arrangements and a few flourishes, most of which are a simple DIY project.  Below are some of my favorite farm styles and looks that you can incorporate into your own decor:

Gotta love the look of these tree trunks for displaying your dessert trays.  I would bet they would look awesome at different heights and with different types of trees.

The photo on the top should put any traditional mother at ease who is concerned that a farmhouse style wedding just won't look polished.  It's easy to add the classic wedding touches with simple white linens and clean white chairs.  Then below, a funky patterned fabric runner, thrifted apothecary bottles and handmade table numbers provide a casual and unique look to the classic tables.

And finally...the DIY project we have all been waiting for.  Nothing pleases me more than an authentic farm table to display your goodies.  It can serve as an amazing head table or dessert table, and it is a design piece itself- no need to really dress it up.  Here's the thing about those farm tables- they are EXPENSIVE.  So when I was browsing some of my favorite blogs, I felt fortunate to find a great example of an inexpensive DIY farm table.  Here's a picture of the final product from The Real Housewives of BC:

Click here for the tutorial.  I know what you are thinking....WHY would I make a table for my wedding?  Well, aside from saving you money (these things are hard to come by, including rental), it is a chance to make your honey sweat, and get involved in a DIY wedding project that seems a bit more manly than making tissue flowers!
